Manufacturers warranty..processor only!?!?
Can anyone advise please:
I'm buying my daughter a laptop in the £400 region for her college work. I've just been in to PC World, (UK), where they've tried to sell me their insurance for £9 per month. I was told that the, (any), manufacturers 12 month warranty only covers the processor, any other fault would be chargeable to repair! Is this correct? Is it legal? Thanks, Al. |
A warranty must cover the whole product. I think a bit of sales person blarney has come into this!
The only time I have known a limited warranty is when a product is left in continious use when sold in the domestic market i.e. 1 year warranty of a vacuum cleaner but providing normal use and not left on 24/7! |
Gosh Al, that is absolutely disgusting of PC world. Don't buy from them, there are plenty of on line sites which are cheaper and better.

You have a statuatory 12 month full warranty by British law with the retailer of any product.
PC World are guilty of employing unknowledgable idiots. As an IT person I used to love going there to see who could tell me the most outrageous claims. Do your research on-line and then look for an outlet you feel you can trust. In my experience, if IT kit is to fail it will happen in the first 6 months and if treated well will give good service. When I buy a new Dell laptop at my workplace I purchase their 3 year accidental damage policy, which I have used on many occasions when laptops get dropped, etc. |
Thanks to you all for the advice.
