Filters

Hello

I'm interested in buying some filters, particularly a circular polariser. On Amazon there is a Hoya brand one for 16 pounds, and 7dayshop carries a generic, own brand one for 4 pounds. Usually you get what you pay for, but do the extra 12 pounds make for a difference in quality?

Thanks

Alex

Never bought a Hoya one, but speculated £4 on the 7 day shop one last year and was disappointed. Don't even keep it in the bag these days.

I'm thinking that I can't go wrong with Hoya, it's a respected brand. If you say the 7dayshop wasn't good I'll fork out the extra money.

I had a hoya one for one of my other lenses, and it was very good.

If you can get a Hoya circular polarizer for £16 then I would suggest it is either a very small one, a second user or a fake.

It's a 49mm thread, so quite small yes. For the lovely OM lenses =)

If you are buying "glass" - get the best you can afford. This advice applies equally to lenses and filters. If I spend £1500 on a lens and I need a filter - I put a "Pro", branded filter on the front - Nikon, Tiffen, B&W, Hoya Pro series, Singh-Ray. Why ruin an excellent lens with a cra**y filter? Yes, there are some very cheap ones out there but I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole - I want filters made with the same care and precision as my lenses.

Thanks for the advice. I'll get it soon, Amazon have it half price =)
