skim flash
 

I am reading an article on portraits and skim flash is mentioned. Also mentioned is diffused key light but there are no diagrams just examples.

I wonder what peoples interpretation of skim flash is?

If you look at the top diffuser most of its light actually misses the subject which may seem a bit odd, but reflecting some of this back can give a soft light, especially in the case of an undiffused flash being used.
