Hoya Skylight 1A filter, to bother or not to bother?

I have been using a 1a filter for some time now and I can't make up my mind whether it is actually worth using. The conditions I'm using it for is usually street photography in sunny conditions on b/w film. Is it something worth using?

These are protection filters. They do not affect light at all. Do you develop your own film? Usually coloured filters are wanted for B&W.

Better to scratch an 1A filter than your expensive lens! It won't have any affect in your photography that you usually do. However it will help penetrate the distant UV haze in a sunny landscape shot on B&W or colour so maybe keep it on just in case.

I go along with keep it on to protect the lens. I just leave a filter on all the time.

Yeah I develop my own film, I starting looking into this and it all seems like a never ending debate, I think I'll leave it on for now though, cheers guys
