Pixel aspect ratio for widescreen

What should Pixel aspect ratio for wide screen be set at. I've never used a wide screen monitor so I'm at a total loss on this one.

This question as been posed by a user of an Acer 19inch wide screen Laptop The screen is set to 1440 by 900, the native resolution for this laptop.

Images when viewed in PS CS2 are stretched in the vertical plane. By setting the aspect ratio to PAL 1.066 the image is then correct. however this setting has to be made for each image opened.
Is there a way to make this setting the default, or is the problem elsewhere.

Hi Harry, I think I understand what you mean, I have recently changed from a 21 inch CRT to a 21 inch widescreen monitor, but have not encountered this problem. However it seems a common problem with people doing video.
The following links may help:

Link 2: http://www.jeremymoore.com/AdobePremiere/PAR_Displays/

I think you may find the answer somewhere in these links.
Good Luck

Yes Andy I've been doing a lot of searching and everything I read on aspect ratio, is to do with video.

Harry,

I think the answer is that the problem lies elsewhere. I've recently been using a laptop with a 17" widescreen display, set at its native resolution of 1440x900, I have no distortion or stretching with pictures viewed using CS2. I know this is probably of little use to you, it might be worth looking at the display driver properties. There may be a setting for aspect ratio in the graphics card driver.

Thanks Duncan, i've told the person concerned that I also think the problem lies elsewhere, as yet he has not come back to me
