Super / Ultra wide angle
 

I was driving along the coast here in Sunderland last night when a shower passed over & a full rainbow was cast over the sea, as I only had my Panasonic FZ28 I took a pic, see Gallery. I also have a Nikon D40 but even the lens 18mm-55mm would not have captured the full bow....What I need is a super / ultra wide lens. Years ago I had a Chinon CE4 with a wide angle lens that would have captured the lot but that was a long time ago & I never took the subject seriously enough, I just took random 'That looks good' shots, what could, should I be investing in to get these great seascapes as I never took any notice of the kit I bought them days. Sigma do a couple of 10-20 zoom lenses with different maximum apertures which would give you a 15-30 equivalent on your Nikon. They even do a 8-16 if you really want to go very wide! Tamron do a 10-24. Nikon also do similar for rather more money.

Tokina 11-16 2.8.....no question!!!!!!!

Hey himself, i had the same dilemma and tried both the Sigma 10-20 f3.5 and the tokina 11-16 and ended up with the Sigma. Both were excellent but the Sigma had better light bursts which were very pretty indeed and really churns out some beautiful, light images with great colour. Im sure its a personal thing but i wasnt sold on the one touch clutch mechanism on the Tokina. I have had the Sigma since Christmas and never stop using it and i know its only 1mm but it makes such a difference as to what you can fit into the image. I am getting so much into a frame now. I can stand less that a metre from a castle tower and fit the whole thing in top to bottom with stunning results. I paid undr £500 for it too so not bad money.

Do try both though, they are stunning lenses!

No not yet, daughter has been stalling on a few things so will let this one find its way...eventually.

wouldn't right off the tokina, never read a bad review. have had a play with a friends tokina 11-16 f4 version and it's a stunning solid feeling lens. The f2.8 is going to be my next purchase.

Had my fair share of sigma lenses and it's very hit and miss as to whether you get a good copy or not as their quality control is so poor.

Tokina set up by a load of guys from Nikon tend to turn out solid great quality products.
