Advice for beginner (400-500$ budget)

Hey,

i got a Nikon FM10, and recently decided to buy a digital camera but i still dont know what to get.

I dont have much money, i was trying to get something for 400$ but im willing to push it to 500$.

With this money what do you consider the overall best choice?

A few things to think about before parting with any money.

1. Do you want a DSLR or a Compact?
2. What will you be taking pictures of?
3. Try before you buy. (Weight, how it handles in YOUR hands, is the viewfinder comfortable especially if you wear spectacles)
4. Pay as much as you can on a lens.
5. Research on the internet the 'pros' and 'cons' of different models.
6. Don't buy a make you have never heard of!

No doubt others will come along and suggest other things to consider.

Do let us know how you get on and we look forward to seeing the results of your new equipment soon.

4 - still got to inform myself
5 - i keep searching in the reviews but they all have pros and cons its kind of difficult to decide since i dont have that much experience ... im currently taking photography classes and i got all the basics covered up plus some training with the fm10
6 - got it

I think you might consider buying Nikon D3100 or the new Canon T3 which the canon has announced recently. Totally depends upon your choice its better to go to the local store hold the different camera see with which you are comfortable than I think you can make a better decision.
Nikon D3100 vs Canon T3 vs Canon XS
Entry Level Cameras
- Nikon D3000
- Nikon D3100
- Canon XS
- Canon T3

If you buy a Nikon then lenses for the FM10 will fit it.
