Adobe aquire Rawshooter

Not sure how this will effect the users of this excellent product, but does appear that Rawshooter will be incorporated into Adobes "Lightroom". Whenever that is released.

Hopefully it wont effect the product and I do agree an excellent product.

I purchased the premium version a few weeks ago at a reduced price of 39, just checked and its back up to 50 odd. Still worth the money and works really well.

How will it affect the market - that is the main question. And the answer, alas, is the same as the answer to all those other aquisitions over the years: it will serve to contract the market and maintain Adobe's position as a quasi-monopoly. The outlook is continued very high prices and continuing very sluggish development.

I keep hoping for a couple of real competitors to emerge, but Adobe won't ever let it happen. The only real light on the horizon was Paint Shop Pro, but that is now part of the Corel empire and (as always happens with Corel aquisitions) seems to be rapidly getting bigger, slower, and riddled with bugs.

It will affect users in that there will be no further development. So it ain't gonna work with any new cameras. That means I'm likely to have to swap to something else sometime in 2007 :mad:

What will that something else be? It's not likely to be Lightroom if Adobe's pricing policy is anything like it is with Photoshop. So I'm looking for a decent replacement now.

This looks like a good time for other raw processors to grab a big market share. All they need do is announce a decent crossgrade offer to users of RSP to move to their product (Bibble, C1, etc.).

Bibble are already offering an upgrade path for users of Rawshooter Premium, unforunately the cost will be $100

Bibble is available in both "Pro" ($129.95) and "Lite" ($69.95) versions for Windows, Macintosh. So you could save $30 on the Pro version
