Easier way for selective colorization?

I recently learned how to do selective colorization, by using layers in Photoshop Elements. I was very surprised that in order to replace the color, I must hand color it in. I asked a fellow photographer how he did his, and this is what he said:
"Make two layers, one black and white, the other color. Put the black and white one on top. Now erase away from that layer whatever you want to be colored... and the color shows through."

But I've been wondering, is there and easier way? it seems like there should be some tool to use to be able to select a certain color, like green, for instance.

Do any of you know of a different way?

Liz C. You could try the 'Replace Color' Tool in Elements. Go to Enhance/Color/Replace Color and play around with that.
