CS causing computer to hang
Anyone any ideas as to why I have to manualy switch of my machine at the end of the day after I have used CS2. Its only recently started doing this. If I don't use CS in the course of the day it will save my setting and shut down normaly but after running CS and go to shutdown it just hangs.

Christine; I don't have CS2 but PS usually asks you to save the last image on which you were working on before letting to close the program. Just a measure to make sure you have not lost your work. Make sure you close all images on which you were working and then try to shut down. See if this works. Otherwise a corrupted .dll or partially deleted files could be the cause if you have recently installed / uninstalled something.

Thanks sassan I tried what you suggested and it didn't work, so its more than likely I have a currupt file somewhere. Hopefully when I do a re-install I don't lose all my action sets and plug-ins.

One thing I have learned in a hard way is to have my hard disk partitioned initially. On C: drive that is a smaller partition (About 5 times of OS size) I save no important picture, document, file etc, this is reserve only for OS. Then every now and then, when pc starts to misbehave, I format that C partition, only, and re-install windows there. Unbelievably improvement in performance is the name of the game (You need to reinstall some of the programs also as they lose their connection with registry). I do take care of every driver that over time I install or needed to be installed along with a hardware added, similarly my important downloads including plug-ins, fonts etc; both in form of CD/DVD if they came that way or in another section of hard drive (Not the volatile C: partition). |

Opss, just forgotten to mention your other hopefully more likely salvaging technique:
You can restore the system back to few weeks back or the date in which you knew the problem did not existed. Here are steps: Start> Accessories> System tools> System Restore> Next> Chose a date when pc was normal Next> Keep the fingures cross and wait for next commend, may take several minutes. |
sassan, I do a similar thing to you when it comes to keeping important files, I keep them all on a seperate drive. My boot drive is only for windows which is only a 20gb partition. all my other program are on the second partiton, all download for the last 3 years are on another drive. Unfortunately Adobe will insist in putting a portion of there files on the boot I have a few programs that do that.
I have tried a restore to an earlier and it still does it. I will just install adobe, it may just restore the corrupt files. |
sassan, its fixed. When I went to re-install it asked just to do a repair, it worked without losing anything. Relief.

Loved to hear that. Always nice to hear good news on Friday evening.
Thanks for feedback and may be its a good time to backup your system (Creating a restore disk and or leave a point for future restore). Congratulations and have fun photographing. |
