Photo contest scams

I saw a link on this site for photo laureates about a contest, top prize of $6500. I submitted a photo. They sent me an email stating that I was a finalist but I had to pay if I wanted a copy of their book. I did a little research and now wish I hadn't entered my photo. They don't sound very legit. I'm wondering how many other people submitted photos from this site to them and how many of you got the same email. I'm thinking anyone who submitted a photo got the same type of email stating they were a "finalist". Just curious.

There is a UK web site where the terms and conditions allow the site owners to take shared copyright of your images, and earn money from them without giving you any. What's more the T&C allow them to make retrospective conditions to the T&C e.g. remove your copyright. It's hard to believe people accept that. But some do.

It's easily done I signed up and loaded some of my pics. I was then told they were not high enough res (800x600). I naively loaded one or two full res images. I then discovered that I couldn't delete these images and the site was taking an equal copyright with me on all posted images. This was a couple of years ago. I now always check the copyright details before loading images. I one of my galleries I load full res images because they sell prints from the gallery for which I get paid. If its free be careful, some one has to pay eventually.:)

I think I can guess the name of that first site. If I am right, then it is run by a Chipmunk. I don't think they are particularly successful as the same old names always appear on the front page as example users. I was banned, as were many other people.
