World Photography Forum - September Competition Theme: Orange

Our September competition shall be themed 'Orange' Please upload your photos to the competition entries category in the gallery.

The competition will be open until September 30th. At the end of September entries will go into a poll for voting for two weeks when a winner will be announced and transferred into the competition winners category. At the end of this year all competition winners will be entered into a poll for the photo of the year contest, held in January 2008.

One entry per member, photo must have been taken by a member but there is no time restriction on when the photo was taken.

Photos that have been entered in our gallery longer than 31 days shall not allowed.

In the event of an overwhelming number of entries Moderators and Admin will decide on a final short list, in this event any Moderators or Admin who entered the competition shall remove their own entry.

ORANGE

A round yellow to orange fruit of any of several citrus trees

The colour orange occurs between red and yellow in the visible spectrum at a wavelength of about 620-585 nanometres. It is the same colour as the fruit for which it was named.

Before the orange fruit was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to (in Old English) as geoluhread, which transliterates into Modern English variously as yellow-red or yellored (pronounced the same).

Cell phone services under the brandname Orange were launched in Mumbai, India in 2000. The brandname is being used under license by Hutchison Essar and Orange India is not part of the Orange group of companies.

Orange refers to a citrus tree (Citrus × sinensis) and the fruits of this tree. It is a hybrid of ancient cultivated origin, possibly between pummelo (Citrus maxima) and tangerine (Citrus reticulata). It is a small tree, growing to about 10 m tall, with thorny shoots and evergreen leaves 4-10 cm long. The fruit originated in southeast Asia, in either India, Vietnam or southern China.

Orange is a bicycle manufacturer, based in the UK. Orange produce a wide range of mountain bikes, ranging from the downhill 222 to the steel P7, decended from Orange's original Clockwork, named after the film.

Orange (Arenjo in Provençal) is a city in the département of Vaucluse, in the south of France. It has a population of about 26,000 people, with a primarily agricultural economy. It is located at 44°08N 4°48E, about 21 km north of Avignon. The town is renowned for its Roman architecture; it possesses the best preserved Roman theatre in Europe, as well as a particularly fine triumphal arch, both built during the reign of Augustus.

Orange is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Orange in Franklin County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,945.
