Bargain Sigma SD-14 at Jessops

have had to try so hard to stop myself buying one as a landscape camera (miss my S3 Pro for landscapes a bit - even though QC was naff !)

anyway - its £499 inc 18-50 DC (3.5-5.6) Sigma Lens + lens filter etc

BUT also £200 cashback from Sigma

so £299 all in !

bargain really - not the best body - but a great sensor inside :)

Are Sigma still using their weird SA mount with this camera, or have they finally seen sense to 'borrow one' from a more popular make like Pentax, nikon or Canon for example?
Traditionally the 'exclusive' mount was always a dissadvantage/ put people off what were their otherwise very good cameras.

Personally, I think £409.99 (currys...£429 body+18-55 at jessops) for an Eos400d + 18-55 + Lowepro rezo160 bag + Lexar 1 gb card + £50 cashback from canon, or cashback price of £269 (£299 + £30 back off Nikon) for a Nikon D40 + 18-55 are potentially more worthwhile systems to get into.

still SA mount Joe - which is admittadly a major disadvantage

I'd pick one of these up over a 400d any day though tbh or a D40 - just depends on what type of usage you'd want from it

I saw a recent mag review, D200 vs S5 Pro vs SD14 (I think anyway) and whilst the SD14 came last - it was only by a small amount

check out some of these full size shots on pbase - thats an amazing amount of detail IMO

Whilst I love the D200 I have now (and will continue to have for a good few years yet) - as its so quick to use etc - I can't get the landscape photos I managed with the S3 Pro I had previously

similar to the S3 Pro the SD14 is an amazing sensor inside a pretty average/below average body

fair points.
The build quality on the Olympus four thirds bodies is rather smart.
The E410 + std zoom is only £269 after cashback. Quite an old body now, but 10mp and an excellent zuiko lens + live view + a very compact camera appeals to many but is often missed (like the Sigma in that respect).
