Aircraft & Li battery restrictions

Is this likely to become a global trend ?

Wow...implications for photographers and pro' videographers there....

From the li-ion content restrictions shown, as long as batteries are carried as hand luggage it doesn't look to be too much of a problem for Digital SLR users...unless you've got near 30x batteries with you...However, checkout the reduced limit on NON-rechargeable li-ion packs as used with many pro film SLR's!

I think the Metz flash battery packs are probably the most hazardous....I've occasionally thought my 60CT pack might burst into flames...but then it always did hum, vibrate and get warm with use!

Except that you are only allowed 2 spares.

You can also bring up to two spare batteries with an aggregate equivalent lithium content of up to 25 grams,

It certainly doesn't seem as onerous as the headline suggests. Carrying your batteries in hand luggage isn't that big a deal. It would appear to only apply to USA flights too.

Fortunately, many of the modern dslr Li-ion batteries can do 1,500 - 2,000 photos per charge... a far cry from the old days. I only have one spare in case one dies completely. Of course, if you're off to somewhere remote for a while with no charging facilities, then charged spares become more relevant.
