Seeking rural decay?

I'm currently trying to seek out some new and interesting photo subjects and one area in particular I'm espacialy keen to explore is old ruined and decaying historic houses/farm buildings etc. I've seen a number of amazing shots posted on the flickr site and want to try some of my own, I've scoured my local area maps etc and have some possibilites ear marked for the near future but most are on private land or away from public rights of way.

I know this is quite a popular subject matter, has anyone else had success with finding such places?

Matt, have you tried knocking at the door of any local villiage farms and asking? Most of the farms in villiages I've lived in or near have at least one semi derilict/run down out building. You can certainly pick up detail shots at almost any of these from inside an old stable/barn/milking shed.
Just a thought

Matt, this is a "hobby" in its own right, and there are fora which discuss this sort of thing - exploring derelict buildings - in great detail.

Try searching for urbex - mostly not asking for permission, and definitly not 4 the faint hearted ( make sure you have your injections). - contrary to the name its not always urban based structures! -
