Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS

Hi everyone

I need you help :D

For xmas I decided to treat my self to a new lens pacifically the one in the title. I was wondering if any of you have this lens and could please tell me what you think of it. Maybe you could even suggest to me a similar lens. My budget is around £200

Many thanks

Robert

P.s. I should say I looking for a everyday lens.

The 18-55 kit lens is a decent value lens and the newer IS version is apparently even better. If you don't mind going for a used lens then something like the 17-85 IS or the Sigma 17-70 might be worth looking for.

Ignore that, I've just noticed that you're using a 10D which I am fairly sure will not work with EF-S lenses so the 18-55 IS and the 17-85 would both be out of the running. When looking for a new lens it's often best to work out what you want to do with it and then workout which lens fits the bill.

Postcardcv, is correct, I just looked it up, your mount is EF not EF - EF-S.

Try a s/h Sigma 24-70mm f2.8. If you're thinking of something wider, try the earlier Sigma 17-35mm. Both are very capable lenses, and both usually can be had for less than £200 secondhand. Don't be tempted by the cheaper 19-35mm which come with badged names like Cosina, Vivitar, Voigtlander, Makinon, Falcon, and more, they are very soft, not a particular stunning optic, with dreadful focus motors too....I've seen these from £200 down to £50 in the secondhand market. I wouldn't touch one even at the later price.
Both of my suggested Sigma lenses will work fine on your 10D, and both are 'full frame' type lenses, so will work on an older AF mount film Eos bodies, as well as full frame Eos digi bodies.

hope this helps
