Lee Filter Adapter for 'Wide Angle' Lens.
Hello,
I have just obtained a Lee Filter Foundation Kit to use mainly on my Tokina 12-24mm lens coupled with a Canon 40D. I now need to get a 77mm thread adaptor to fit the kit to the lens. I wanted to ask if I would be okay with the standard adaptor without vignetting or is it neccessary to get the more expensive wide angle adaptor? Regards, Andrew. |
Thanks for nowt. Just gone and bought the wide angle adaptor to find out for myself.

Only saw this today or I would have answered sooner!
Yes, you'll need a wide angle adapter. On my full frame body, I start to get some vignetting at around 19mm, using a 17-35mm lens and with 2 filter slots and a polariser ring attached. If the polariser is on as well, it becomes evident at around 20-21mm. I would imagine this will not be the case with a cropped sensor until you reach a shorter focal length, but I wouldnt be surprised if there is still some vignetting at 12mm, depending on the number of slots you put on the front. |
If you need a question answered quickly you need to post it on a high volume site like photo.net. Questions normally get answered within the hour i find depending on the time.
I find this site is more of a gallery.....its all about the pictures..... |
Thanks Gordon, I currently use a combination of two screw on filters and do get some vignetting. Hopefully by having gone for a wide angle adaptor it will not be a problem. I have already conceded that I may not be able to use three filters but I do like to keep the glass in front of the lens to a minimum anyway.
