Fungi are not plants!

Please can we have a category for Fungi, or rename Plants to Plants and Fungi.

Fungi are not plants. They are in a separate grouping, as are animals. Does anyone care? Maybe not. Except me. :D

I dunno, Princeton University classifies them as "lower plants" ;-)

Who precisely at Princeton University classifies them as "lower plants"? Are we talking janitor here? :D

Animals, plants and fungi each have their own separate kingdom:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fungi

In particular "Fungi are more closely related to animals than to plants". So maybe we should place fungi pictures in the animals section?

I think that at the very least the section should be called "Plants and fungi" unless a new section is created.

If your going to be a Pedant don't be surprised if others resort to pedantry ;-)

The wikipedia is a wiki. Do you understand what that means? It can be edited by anyone and as a result cannot be entirely relied upon. I'll have a search for the Princeton link. I'm pretty certain it was in the top ten hits on my google search.

The credits at the bottom atribute this to Princeton.

I think you meant "you're". :D

I gave that link as an example that you could check. The same information is in the specialist books that I have at home. And at university botanists are taught that Fungi are in a separate kingdom.

In any case I checked your link and it too agrees that they are in a separate kingdom. I'm not familiar with the term Lower Plants.

As an aside, an organisation recently did a check on wikipedia and the Encyclopaedia Britannica, and found then to be on a par, though neither was free of errors. I find it to be surprisingly accurate on areas about which I am knowledgeable. It seems to be written by people with expert knowledge.
