Next lens

Okay, car will be paid off in 2 more payments ;) *knocking on wood that nothing happens after that* so I am looking to add a bit more reach for my D50 than my present Sigma 80-300mm. Some suggestions in a not too expensive but quality lens?

For handheld use or on a tripod? Lots of praise for the Tamron 200-500 around, seems that is o.k. to hold. Alternatively, the ubiquitous 'Bigma' 50-500mm has to be mentioned... I do know a couple of people who hold this one and get sharp photos, but you'll need quite good light to get the shutter-speeds high enough wih any 500mm to reduce camera shake. Tripod strongly suggested for any of these/

Maybe someone else has a recommendation?

A regular suggestion for good "bang for the buck" is the Sigma 135-400. If you can find the (now discontinued) non-DG version then there's a real bargain to be had, mine cost £199.

I guess I should have given a dollar range. I was thinking between 500 & 800. but if I can find the lens Duncan has suggested, that would be super. ;) Thanks guys.
