Fair point, that didn't cross my mind, but as you say I do usually have my lens at full whack 300mm.

I was discussing the very same thing yesterday and was advised that I would lose too much DOF with the 2x tc and should stick to 1.4x tc.

I am going to borrow a tc later this week to experiment...
