How many frames did the time stay the same?... it's possible for him to have 7 or 8 frames in a second. I still reckon it's all a bit odd.

A teleconverter isn't going to make your shots sharper, that's for sure. Generally you need to stop down from f5.6 to get the best results... and that's on top of the f-stop of light you've lost...

The Nikon Wireless remote for the D50 and D70 is £14.99. TC's are more expensive with Nikon... but the Kenko Pro 300 series will be the best bet for Canon or Nikon users wanting extra reach anyway.
