use the camera in 'P' mode untill you get used to using it. It should cope with most situations. best thing to do is to experiment with differet settings.

I already owned a 35mm canon slr, and a 100-400mm lens, so it was far easyer and cheeper for me to get a canon DSLR, than another brand.
