I bought the off camera cord 2 from a u.k. supplier for £27 + £3p&p on ebay (Denise Camera?)... obviously a grey import but without major shipping cost.

Bit flimsy vs Nikon though

There is some good news from a switch from digiscoping to dslr photography, in that your ability to crop and enlarge the subject with a photo from a dslr is far greater than that from a compact...

If you're perfectly happy with the camera, no need to upgrade the firmware. I like the thought of being able to do a sensor clean when I'm away from the psu, but that's about it really.

Nikon D2x firmware update next week? (now here)

According to a thread on DPR, the firmware update for the D2x, that takes it close to the D2xs, will be released next week.

I know posts on DPR need a healthy portion of salt, but it feels right.

All things being equal, adding teleconverters does reveal more detail.. But, and its a big but, the problems of extra focal length and adding more glass creates it's own problems that can diminish...
