I too think this was a one off. Another time you can get an error, I think it's FEE or similar, is, if your camera is in A or S mode, and you connect an older manual focus Ai AIS or pre these lenses....

Sound advice from all I think. If a manufacturer were to make a bad DSLR at the moment they would be doomed. Try all the models you can, even second hand, and make the choice that way.
