The sidekick is compatible with the ‘Arca-Swiss’ style quick-release adapter, e.g. the Arca-Swiss B1 or the Kirk BH-1. I’m not familiar with the Manfrotto range, so I can’t comment. I remember...

It is tempting to assume that a setting of 0 in one style will produce the same result as a setting of 0 in another style. These are the settings for the following three Styles, in the order...

As far as I understand it, the Faithful setting does nothing to the image (I'm sure that's not possible, but you know what I mean). I'm therefore interested to know what type and degree of sharpening...

Thanks for your reply Stephen.

I got the camera on Saturday last, and used it on Sunday – a very gloomy day – and twice in the evenings, so it’s very early days for me. I love the build and feel...

1D Mark II N Picture Style and Colour Space

I have just upgraded my 10D (broke it) to a 1D Mark II N (had it a few days), and I’m trying to understand the ‘Picture Style’ parameter settings (sharpness, contrast, saturation, colour tone) and...

Karen eventually went for the Nkon D70s and 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 DX lens. She will look at macro and telephoto at a later date if things go well.

I’ve had a play with the camera and it’s nice – solid...

I agree with this entirely, but having thought about it, perhaps the camera body is not the main issue. If it feels good in the hands, is there much to choose between the Canon and Nikon (and perhaps...

What you are saying about how AI Servo uses the AF points is correct, certainly with my old faithful 10D. Because of the way it works, I would imagine that using AI Servo all the time with birds...

Thanks for your comments Don.

It does worry me, as I don’t want Karen to be disappointed. She has a limited budget, so she can’t afford the equivalent of my equipment (not that mine is...

Beginner advice

Karen, a very good friend of mine, wants to buy her first DSLR and lenses and is confused by the alternatives. I am a Canon user and I’m very happy with Canon, but I’m trying not to influence her too...

Very nice picture.

I would expect the white in this image to be represented by a short spike at the extreme right of the histogram. If the spike sits against the right-edge of the histogram then...

I have this feature on my 10D. My only complaint is that it’s so small (and my eyes are starting to go!) I sometimes find it difficult to see the very small blown highlights and the detail at the...

Although I’ve never taken photographs of planes, I can’t think of a circumstance in which it would be difficult to check exposure with the histogram? It’s not too different from photographing birds...

I thought this thread had died – wasn’t getting updates.

If you’re going to chimp, surely there's no point in doing so unless you review the histogram? The images alone tell you very little...

I think you have a lot of will power Duncan!

I think taking a look after every shot is excessive, and chances are, if you look this often, with some subjects you'll miss some shots. I suppose it...

Thanks Andy,

I’ve had a look at the 30D on the Canon website. This would give me another 1.9 MP, an additional 2fps, and another 2 images in a burst. Would I notice a significant difference with...

Canon upgrade; what would you do?

I have used the 10D for 2 years now for bird photography, and want to upgrade. Although I have no major complaints about the 10D, there are 3 weaknesses in my view: frame-rate (3fps), buffer size (9...
