I'll be watching replies with interest. I haven't got half the gear youve got (well 20D, 17-85, 70-300 + bits & peices) but there are times when I'm just down the park with the kids, not really taking photos but all of a sudden you need a camera. So one that will slip in the pocket and I would almost echo your spec - the only thing I would add would be the ability to take RAW.
I think you will struggle for some of your requirements, particularly fast shutter response. I used to have a Minolta A2 which had quite a good rep as a prosumer digicam but shutter response & focusing spreed (lack of) were key in my decison to get a dSLR.
I'm tempted to look for a Nikon 5400 or 8400 on ebay - anybody any other suggestions?
