Leif, I've been reading your thread with interest.
Your ingenuity is inspired, my hat goes off to you.
I do hope they supply the correct replacement part this time, but I have a horrible niggly feeling they're gonna let you down. I only hope it's not me getting a negative stance.

Nikonians have now offered to honour the warranty and have asked me to send the entire ball head back to Germany, and they will send me a new one. I guess I cannot argue with that, but it is inconvenient, meaning that I would be without a ball head for at least a week.

I'm sure many of us would've gone with the option Nikonians offered and been without the unit.
I have my fingers crossed that you get an adequate result on this one Leif.
