Hi there Ian, they were both taken on the same day, but obviously at different times and with the light in different directions. What I think you have here is a classic white balance shift. Pic 2 appears to have a late day lighting when the temperature of the light is cooler - hence a blue cast. This may also be caused by the fact that it is against the open sea not the land. In Pic 1 you seem to have a fairly strong light almost head on. I have taken the liberty of decreasing the blue only to correct white balance in the attachment and as you can see the sky is slightly red now but the white of the superstructure is more white. This is deliberately done to show the difference. Although to our eyes conditions may appear the same, white balance in a camera can be very different.
Hope this helps - others may have a different idea but I think I'm right on this.
