I never had the intention of going for full frame so following the release of the D3X I have been more interested in the continued progress of digital imaging. A huge amount of what I have read has revolved around the price. A lot of people not happy bunnies. I was around in the photography scene in the 90's so well remember a series of massive price hikes as a result of the falling value of the pound. It happend slower than this year, but over the period 1992-1993 the GB£ to Japan Yen fell from £1 = 226.95 JPY (Jan02) to £1 = 163.91 JPY. I was kitting myself out with Bronica gear at the time and lens prices particularly skyrocketed. I still have invoices for what I bought back then.

Joe would probably chuckle at the price for my Nikon F3 body in 1995 @
£1249:00 from EFC the first of the discount warehouses.
So back to the present day and a look at the GB Pound to Japan Yen rate that has fallen hugely since August.
August figure GB£1 = 206.41 JPY. Todays figure GB£1 = 137.18 JPY.
So are we about to see a similar price hike as in 1993 for the higher end bodies and lenses that are manufactured in Japan. D3X pricing may relect that.
Just a question posed for any thoughts. I have mentioned before ......... my education was mainly under a thorntree on the African plains so I know nothing of global economics.
