What I suspect you have bought is one of these. It is like a filter that you put on the front of the lens. It allows you to focus nearer to the subject and thus get a larger image. A cheap form of macro. The expensive version give fair results but the cheap ones give poor results are are only useful as a hand held magnifying glass.

It looks like the have shown the close-up lens attached.

Lets hope they forget to take it off the Nikkor
