The biggest assumption in the industrial age is that everything in life can be made procedural. That is by following a sequence of rules (steps) a job can be done or a product made. This is mainly true if the rules and steps are clearly defined and understood. Large software projects often become unhinged when they stumble upon areas where the rules are not clearly defined because folk make them up for decisions as they go along. It needs some form of artificial intelligence (AI) or a bit of none existent magic software to glue it all together. A programmer’s nightmare is knowing how to react to the unexpected happening. So “How did you do that” is a software programmers most common question.

Following a sequence of rules and steps are idea for producing uniform products or performing tasks within acceptable tolerances. It is just as well we get machines to do most of this for us otherwise it would be Sooooooo Boring.

A cake recipe is an early form of program. Get 10 cooks to follow it and your get 10 different results. When the apprentice cook looks at their burn offering and asks the head cook “How did you make such a perfect cake”, what is he to say? I didn’t follow the recipe at all and I used some special spices handed down from my grandmother.

Yes experience allows you to adapt and improve.
