Never done any diving but what strikes me is that assuming you are using a normal camera in a waterproof housing the main thing is easy use of the controls and the ability to use flash off camera. Fast lens too I guess would make life easier in murky waters for focussing. I think it would be a good idea if possible to try handling some camera/housing combinations, with your diving gloves on if you wear them, to see what suits you. Sorry I can't be more helpful, it is a rather specialist field. Shame Nikon don't do a digital version of the old Nikinos.
