Holy see,

Any of the current digital SLR will be suitable for fashion portraits, and all the manufacturer's do a good line up of lenses that will suit this kind of work. Which specific model of lens you should buy will depend very much on the style you intend to adopt.

Rather than get hung up over which equipment to use, the important point is that you practice your style and technique. This together with building up an understanding of lighting will be of far more importance than the gear you use. Fashion portrait lighting is a huge subject and one that you'd probably be better off buying a book on or maybe doing a short course in.

A D60 and the standard kit lens will do just fine until you understand a bit more about lighting and the style you want to develop.
