Default Got A Printer For Xmas...

Hi All,
Seasons Greetings,

It's an Epson Photo Printer R240. Seeing as I couldnt find the cable to connect it to my Mac, I put my memory card into it, and used the little screen to choose a pic to print. The results were patchy to say the least. In fact I am very dissapointed. Having spent £1000+ on a 20D this is not what I expected. The images look like they were taken on a digital camera, not like they look on a monitor(when they look really good - just like film).
I am going to get a cable as soon as possible and play about with PhotoShop, but in the meantime I wanted to ask:
Have I got a crappy printer?
Am I expecting too much ?
Am I rubbish at taking photos?

I lost a lot of photos earlier this year when a computer I loved died on me.I know its my own fault for not backing up, but it has made me think about storage. For Mac users, what is better iPhoto or EOS viewer?

Cheers
Dave
