Default Digitizing Old Photos

I have just started to digitize some old photos, some dating back to the 1900,s.
I wonder if any one on here has done this sort of thing and whether there might be any suggestions as to how best to approach the project. There are 100,s if not thousands of pictures involved.
So far I've started scanning them into my computer, converting them to Tiff. then used CS2 to crop them, Levels to adjust the brightness and contrast. I then use the Dust & Scratches command to clean them up. I use the Clone tool to remove any bigger artifacts such as large scratches/fold marks/tears etc. I some cases I also use the Auto Curves to remove the brownish tint that the older ones have. I run them through the Unsharp Mask. Finally I save them to a R/W CD so they they don't take up space on my hard drive. Obviously the process is very time consuming.
