I do not know how built in A/F assist would have helped here. I doubt any assist would be much use in this situation.
Anyone know the range of these A/F assists ?
Like your 40D my D2X has amazing low light A/F without focus assist. Not built in to the D2 series, but then it is hardly comparable with a D50.
D50 - Multicam 900 v D2X - Multicam 2000, so it is not really relevant to the origional post.
