An interesting piece Ben. You've confirmed what I suspected in many cases. I'm not sure I agree with your point about not needing to be technically good. It all depends on what you mean by "good", and I agree that "excellence" is not required, but there has to be a certain minimum standard. No amount of post processing will fix things if the point of focus is horribly wrong.
