Hi I am trading up to a Nikon D200 in the New Year. But I heard that if I shoot in RAW (which I do) when I come to download the images onto Photoshop CS it will not recognise the data and wont open the file.
Has any one heard of this or had any similar probs. I would be interested to hear before I find I cant download. Thanks, Nogbad |

Adobe Photoshop CS does not read any RAW files. Instead a module called Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) reads and edits the files before they are passed to photoshop for further editting.
All new cameras files cannot be read by RAW converters unless they are updated to read the headers of the RAW data. I think if ACR is updated then there will be no problems. Personally I would use Nikon Capture NX to read RAW files from a D200 as its much more versatile and will produce a better quality converted output file.

As an alternative to Camera Raw (ACR) you could download Adobes Lightroom beta. This being free until February, or free if you have Rawshooter premium.
I've used all of the raw converters available for Canon raw files and by far prefer Lightroom. Harry |

Adobe Camera Raw may not have as many features as programmes such as NX but it's very easy to use and in one way it is more versatile than camera-makers' own converters in that it supports all sorts of cameras - my wife has an Olympus C5060wz which has a RAW format but it can only be converted 'in-camera' as it stands, out of the box, but ACR recognises the RAW files from it

Thanks guys. Might see if funds can stretch to Nikon Capyure NX. Otherwise I will see if I can get the updates for CS.

The latest version of Adobe Capture RAW plug-in is a free (for ever!) download from here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=3554 (assuming you are using Windows). NX certainly has an excellent reputation if you are Nikon user though. |

I was lucky to go to a recent Vincent Versace Nikon Masterclass in San Francisco. He has written books on Photoshop CS, but has now switched over to Nikon Capture NX as step one for his D2X/D200 work, following this with CS as necessary. Here's Versace's URL:
http://www.versacephotography.com/v2/gallery/index.html I downloaded the Capture NX and got hooked. I've no financial attachment to any of this. The work flow has become play flow. Have fun in any case. Nikon has helpful tutorials here: http://www.capturenx.com/ - Bob |

Hi guys, sorry not replied but had the dreaded bug over xmas!!
Thanks for all your help I have dowmloaded the update. But I think I will definitely invest in the Capture NX and save up a few more pennies to get it. As always a WPF is a mine of information and help. Cheers Nogbad |
