Silly question (maybe) about cokin filter holders

I'm thinking of buying a Cokin Filter holder and filters for landscape photography mainly. Anyway my question is the lens I use mostly for landscapes turns on the end when it focuses so can the filter holders be easily rotated after focusing or is it not possible. Also I read in another thread about stepping up rings well the lens I mostly use is 52mm and the other 56mm is it better to use stepping up or down rings or does it make n difference. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

Chaz, if you are talking about the square Cokin filters, yes, they can be rotated independently of the lens front element.

I would buy an adaptor to fit the largest lens diameter you have and then buy a step down ring to adapt your other lens(es). This will reduce the risk of vignetting if you did it the other way around.

Chaz, something to think about is which size cokin filters to use, A or P or be really adventurerous and go for Z. The P size is probably the better option if you are thinking of carrying on with landscape for any length of time. AP did a review of filter systems a few weeks ago, so it may be worth checking out their web site for some hints and good advice. www.amateurphotographer.co.uk. Are you sure your second filter dia is 56, and not 58mm.

Thank you both. I will take your advice and buy an adaptor for the biggest. Yes I'm talking about the square ones and thinking of buying the P size. My mistake it is 58mm. I'll check out the link and have a look at the reviews. Thanks
