Hi there, being a very sad person I often go through the EXIF data on shots in the gallery and I find that with those who use Canon Cameras they appear to display nonsense - A Canon EOS 20 D has a lens multiplier of 1.6x similar to the 1.5 of various Nikons. A Recent photo by Jiffers (Please forgive Liberty)
LINK: http://www.worldphotographyforum.com...7&limit=recent Shows under ~Lens~ 200mm ( 35mm equivalent of 1039mm ) This seems to happen with most Canon EXIF in the Gallery. Is this a fault or something else? While I'm not yet ready for "Canonization" - still got two and a bit miracles to go - changing from Nikon may qualify as a major one - I would jump for a lens that was sold as a 200 mm and magically turned itself into a 1000 mm + !!! I was commenting in reverse having come the other way Andy. I think that with the Canon type of sensor, the exif takes the crop into account, so when you get these mega focal lengths it just means a very small crop. As you say Nikon doesn't seem to do this so folks can't tell when you have cropped.
Too many St Andrews already so don't bother with the prelim step |

It's not the crop as such - I have noticed it too, but it seems to be based on the pixel dimensions of the image in relation to the focal length. In effect it calculates a 'crop factor' where one doesnt really exist - just resizing. My sensor is full-frame, so whatever focal length lens I have on, that's what it stays!

Thanks for that Don, I did search WPF before I posted but didn't find that one from almost three years ago - I suppose it shows the speed of Canon's development arm !!???!! Thank goodness Nikon don't take so long !!!! Still with a firm where I'm told you still take the lens cap off to start your exposure count .............. Three years waiting for correct EXIF is not that long ......

I must confess to some of my photos displaying nonesense EXIF data.....
A few people have commented directly on my photos comments. Taken with Nikon bodies, but I use the older Manual adaptall2 lenses with AI adaptalls fitted, which do default to a standard f1.0 reading. None of the other EXIF data is affected, but judging from others commenting I'm sure it's puzzled more than a few people, but I have to come clean and admit I do not own any f1.0 lenses......let alone a 300mm f1.0!!! (assuming one exists, size of a dustbin and weight of a car engine!) My apologies if any of my photo EXIF data has mislead anyone
