Hi All
What a day, was invited back to a private lake to photograph a Great Crested Grebe on nest that was incubating her third clutch this year. I settled down, about thirty feet away from her in a natural hide, focused up, and made sure all was well. She was sitting quietly and unconcerned, I took a few shots of her nestled down 10 in all, beautifully focused on her eye, then switched off the camera to wait for her to rise and rearrange her eggs. I waited patiently for about 15 minutes and then she started to rise, I switched on the D70 and NOTHING, the green light was flashing and the camera was DEAD. It’s now on its way back to Nikon at Richmond where it in all probability it will be for about a fortnight or so. Meanwhile mistress Grebe will have done her duty and I will have missed the whole event. I was told by the Nikon service dept tech that I was experiencing the “Blinking Green Light of Death” and that there was no charge for the cure. Ah well! all part of life’s rich pageant I suppose. Sorry to hear of your untimely misfortune but it seems you have done great shots on the nest. Always carry a spare body that is compatible with your lenses for important events, borrow one from a friend if you have to.

I fear it may be longer than two weeks. I sent a lens to Nikon U.K. last year as only them service VR modules - it took eight weeks for a simple service, clean and realign.

I had a similar problem with my D70 last year and it took two weeks including initially sending it to warehouse express, so fingers crossed for you! This is one of those things that makes me think it's better to have two cheaper bodies rather than putting all the camera cash into a more expensive model - and concentrate on upgrading the lenses.
