In the future I am thinking of getting a Prime lens/camera/1.4x converter.
At the moment I have a Nikon D70s/Tamron 200-500mm. I was thinking along the lines of a Nikon D200/Sigma 500mm f4.5/1.4x converter. Would the D200 compliment this lens or is the D70s adequate for the job. I did read somewhere the more mega-pixels the better (and the D200 seems a v.good camera), but I am not sure. If anyone uses the Sigma with this camera, I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance. Gary |

I have a Sigma 500 f4.5, a D200 and a D70 and have been happy with the results. I have to say that when using a Kenko 1.4x the Sigma has a tendency to "hunt" and is very difficult to use with a 2x (mainly because the view finder becomes very dark). The raw files from the D200 are stunning and beat the D70 every time, but that isn't to say that I don't rate the D70. I tend to carry both bodies with me at all times.
Have a look at these images of mine from birdforum taken using a mixture of set-ups. http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/sho...9/ppuser/18900 http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/sho...2/ppuser/18900 http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/sho...3/ppuser/18900 http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/sho...9/ppuser/18900 http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/sho...5/ppuser/18900 http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/sho...6/ppuser/18900 |

Very nice pics.
I take it with the Sigma you used a tripod? May get a D200 for now to use with my Tamron, then get the lens when funds/wife allows. Which tripod though for when I do get the Sigma? |

The Sigma is a bit of a handful without a tripod. I use a Manfrotto Neotec carbon fibre tripod with a 701 head. Seems to do the trick.
