Which camera for scuba diving?
I am a Scuba diver, who dives in the UK, (low light and visibilty) to the red sea (bright and colourful). I had a Fuji F11 which I used to take on all dives with me but am now looking for something newer.
Can anyone recomend which camera I should be considering for the types of conditinos I am likley to encounter. I have narrowed it down to Canon, Panasonic and Fuji as they all make their own housings rated to 30/40 metres in depth. I do like Fuji as it is what I had before. However, having used a friends Panasonic I was very impressed. I alsoi hear good things about the canon. I would want manual white balance. Other than that I dont need anything else. HD movie would be nice though. Budget for the camera is around £200 and I am definately looking for a compact. Thanks for any advice you can give. Rob

Never done any diving but what strikes me is that assuming you are using a normal camera in a waterproof housing the main thing is easy use of the controls and the ability to use flash off camera. Fast lens too I guess would make life easier in murky waters for focussing. I think it would be a good idea if possible to try handling some camera/housing combinations, with your diving gloves on if you wear them, to see what suits you. Sorry I can't be more helpful, it is a rather specialist field. Shame Nikon don't do a digital version of the old Nikinos.

You cannot beat a Nikonos - the only camera fully designed for underwater to 160ft. Superb optics and built like a tank. So it's 35mm film, so what?

My cousin in Lanzarote uses a funky case thing. I will ask him and see what he thinks.
I love film, but the only problem I would think is what you do once you run out of film. But answering to my own question, a dive is about 30 to 40 minutes long, so you wouldn't really be shooting a full 36 exp film.
