It also depends on the type of shooting you are doing. As Gordon says landscape shooting is all about composition so you might only take 10-20 shots in a shoot whereas if you are trying to capture action and you have it on 9fps burst you could rack up 300 shots in the same period, the vast majority of which would be deleted.

If we go somewhere for a trip, for family album, I normaly keep 95% - delete only repetitions or boring. As well for hobby and shots during restoration of our house. These last ones were very useful when I took legal action against some companies. Going to shoot out, for porfolio, it is probably the other way round.
