Saphire - I use CF rather than SD cards but I think the speed ratings are on the same basis. I have a 1gb Trancend card which is rated at 80x which is not as fast as your Extreme III and yet that transfers a full card in under 2.5 minutes using a card reader. A thought - are both your card reader & PC USB ports USB 2?

Two 1gb cards equals 1, 40gb storage device and they hold a heck of a lot of images.
Hi Christine. It never occurred to me to buy a portable storage device! Doh. Leif

Gidders is there anyway to check whether the reader is usb 2 . It is plugeed into a usb 2 port but it doesn't say on the reader itself.
