Sorry Mike, I have always suffered from N.A.S. - Nikon Acquisition Syndrome - I have a pre order in already
I collect it the day I pick up my 200-400 mm Nikkor.

Just goes to prove the power of advertising - at least I got hands on with my E-M1 before pre-ordering. That lens is supposed to be something special - will be interested to see the results.

Having just glanced down the D810 thoughts in DP review I am curious as to what extra you think you are getting for a very comfortable 4 figure sum over what you already have?

You might have done better saving for the D820!
I have been waiting for the new Canon 100-400, only been about 16 years so far! But this is the year isn't it? Again!

In the mean time got an Olympus EM-1 'cos I am getting too old to lug the Canon stuff around.....

Mike and Co. I have spent years lugging around Nikons from the Nikormat FTn up to the recent D3; as many as 3 bodies plus lenses. I had decided that the D3X would be my final stop ..... and then came the D800 and D800E. I have an 800 - less than 500 actuations so far - and was thinking of exchanging for an 800E, I use a very good dealer - Cambrian Photographic - and they offered me an "E" for very little exchange. Then the D810 appears.... reading the specs and reviews - for me it will do all I want in one body - perfect for landscape and better fps, same detail as the 800E - though I'm told it actually is an improvement on the "E". So this will be my last camera. Max of 2 to lug around - I am keeping the D100 IR converted - and as I become more decrepit I can get the carers to carry the stuff for me

Get yourself an Oly 50-200 for the E-M1 and forget the 100-400. Its a superb lens, will cost far less than any new Canon offering even with the MMF3 adapter and with the onboard 2x converter you get 800mm at f3.5

Incidentally, I tried the 2x converter in RAW today and if you review the frame in camera it shows you the full frame with a 2x crop box - still not convinced what this really does.
