Default Pentax K7 or Nikon D90

Hi all,

I am looking at updating my camera and have been looking at the Pentax K7 or Nikon D90.

Both feel comfortable to hold and use but the pentax seems to be the better spec.

I was just looking for peoples opinions especially members who use one of these cameras on a daily bases.

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

If you already have bits specifically for Nikon fit cameras, buy the D90. If you already have bits that fit Pentax cameras buy the K7.

If you don't have any existing system, then it gets a bit more subjective. If you take pictures of wildlife and/or fast moving sports, then buy the Nikon. Why? Because the continuous AF on Pentax is much poorer and the choice of lenses of over 300mm is much more limited in a Pentax fit.

If sports/wildlife isn't your thing, then by all means get the K7. I have one and am very happy with it. It has all the features you need, without having a load of features you don't need.

Thinks for that duncan I don't tend to do much sport or wildlife do you think the K7 would cope with the odd game of local amature rugby? It is at a good price just now with a twin lens kit 18 - 55 wr and a 50 - 200 wr for 919.99 at my local photography shop.

Yes, it'll cope with rugby, the subjects are far enough away for the continuous AF to cope - just as it can cope with things like airshows. It's when it's trying to track things in close that it struggles.

You can get it a bit cheaper plus a spare (pattern) battery from SRS, a Pentax specialist dealer I've used quite a few times.

SRS do free postage if you buy from their ebay shop or are a member of the pentaxuser.co.uk forum.

Depends on the level of service your local dealer offers. You could see if they'll price match SRS if you take a printout in to the shop.
