A Sigma 50-500 EX f/4-6.3 EX DG RF HSM should fully work on the Fuji S1 pro, providing its the Nikon AF mount version. I owned an S2 I know no principle difference between S1 and S2 base camera. I did not try a 'bigma' but I never a compatibility issue with any lens. Focus should be okay at f6.3 although I would expect operation slow.

Best to try in a local camera shop and rest your fears - dont have to buy just give it a good tryout and say you need some time to think!

Hi Steven, I have already bought one off ebay and it will not auto focus on the S1. I got a mate to bring his D2X up to make sure the lens was not faulty, and it works perfectly.I always thought the S1 was based on the Nikon 80 cameras, but I have since found out it is based on the N60.He says it will only work on the 80s onwards.I posted this question to try and find out if he is right ? In the meantime I bought a D50, again of ebay (not arrived yet) this will work with this lens, but if for some reason the S1 should work I would like it to,it works ok with my other lens's
Thanks for your reply,Bert

I am sure any Nikon-AF mount lens will work on the S1 and I believe its based on the F80 just like the S2. Occasionally a lens is found not to work and the manufacturer usually release a fix, normally a firmware upgrade to the lens or camera. Since S1 in no longer in production there will be little interest from Fuji to correct any problem but.... The bigma is in production and they may know of an issue so your next best move is to contact Sigma.

The HSM in the lens will need a body that will operate those silent wave type Nikon lenses, I think - perhaps the S1 will be unsuitable because of this and only work with lenses that are focussed from the camera's built-in motor

After a bit of tracking down..... S1 is based on N60 camera and will not focus AF-S type lenses (see spec below).

So, there is nothing wrong with the S1 or bigma they were not designed to operate together.
