Hi John, I have a Kenko Pro 1.4 teleconverter for my Nikons - I have used it on my 105 f2.8 Micro Nikkor with no problem. I know that you would be struggling with the 70-300 f4.5 unless you had a bright day and a well lit subject - I tried it once and then I got a 50-500 Bigma Sigma instead of trying to persist.

John its the Kenko Teleplus Pro 300. It's a dedicated Nikon model - it maintains all electrical contacts between body and lens - I seem to remember their Canon version does the same. With Nikon's own converters you often loose auto focus etc.

I use one on my 40 D with a Sigma macro lens which works well but the autofocus with the 70-300 DO is very hit and miss. Canon cameras like your 350 D and my 40D are not specified to autofocus with a lens of f5.6 plus converter so can't really grumble but I find that on central focusing point only often refuses to focus properly but is better on all points active. Not just with the Kenko but any converter. Optical quality of the Kenko is very good.

I use the Kenko pro 300 1.4 tc with my Canon 100/2.8 macro with no problems. I have both Canon and Kenko pro 1.4 tc's and IMO there is very little difference in IQ, the advantage of the Kenko (apart from price) is that it will fit on just about any lens.
