Certainly looks interesting - well worth a try for the cost of a bolt, washer and piece of string. Thanks for posting.

You'll need a 1/4" UNC screw. A 1/4" Whitworth will also fit.

As the man in the video himself says in the posts below the film clip, it's not his own idea but I think it does work. I've seen a similar tip in a photo mag years ago (with a loop at the bottom instead of the washer so that you can slip your foot through).

will certainly give it a whirl, but find the main problem up on them there hills is wind, so maybe 2 pieces of string and a tent peg?

Lay off the Baked beans before the visit

Blimey I used to use this string technique years ago, but with washing line chord, instead of the washer I had a loop tied in the chord for my foot to go through!
